Lux-Airport, the management company of the Luxembourg international airport, has announced the start of runway rehabilitation work at the airport from next week.
Preparation works for the renovation of the airport’s single 4,000m-long runway is currently underway and major works are planned to start next week.

Lux-Airport selected SOMO Findel Airport Consortium to undertake the airport’s runway renovation work, which will be carried out over the next two years.
The consortium includes Colas, Felix Giorgetti SàRL, C. Karp-Kneip Constructions, and JDC Airports.
The scope of the works includes renewal of side strips, water drainage, and signs as well as upgrading of all the 1,500 lights on the runway to most modern LED lights.
Lux-Airport CEO René Steinhaus said: “In fact, we are building a new runway on top of the old one at night time while keeping the only runway of our country open for all regular flight schedules. Therefore it was important to us to choose a well-experienced construction partner.”

By GlobalDataWork is planned to be executed in the airport between 23:00h and 06:00h.This allows the airport to stay operational for flights during daily operations, thus avoiding possible disturbance for flight schedules.
SOMO Consortium spokesperson Stéphane Brondino said: “The entire concept is designed to be efficient, safe, and sustainable. Luxembourg will get a state-of-the-art runway in a high-speed timeframe.”
The consortium will undertake the work in sections. The work is expected to create more than 300 jobs daily.
