Major construction work has been completed on the $7.7m road project that restored and repurposed one-mile stretch of Mount Read Boulevard in the City of Rochester, New York.
The project will improve movement along the key commercial corridor of the city’s west side.

It transformed the road between Buffalo Road of State Route 33 and Lyell Avenue of State Route 31. Pavement was resurfaced and the number of travel lanes were reduced.
Besides a center-turning lane, a new roundabout has been added at the intersection with Buffalo Road.
New York Governor Cuomo said: “Even in the face of a global pandemic, we are continuing to rebuild our infrastructure to meet the needs of the 21st Century. This project on Mount Read Boulevard, an important travel corridor in the City of Rochester, will enhance safety and mobility for all commuters while helping to further revitalize the local economy and move the Finger Lakes forward.”
The Mount Read Boulevard acts an important route for commuters and commercial traffic in Monroe County. Besides being just to the east of the interchange between Interstate 390 and Interstate 490, it is located within a four miles distance from the Greater Rochester International Airport.

By GlobalDataWork on the project started in April 2019. New traffic pattern was implemented to reduce the travel lanes on Mount Read Boulevard from three in each direction to two in each direction.
To make space for a centre turning lane, a concrete median was removed and additional shoulder space was added.
Sidewalks, ramps, traffic signals, signage and pavement markings were added to enhance safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
