A consortium of PORR and Mota-Engil Central Europe has secured a contract worth PLN989.7m (€217m) from the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) in Poland to design and build the 15km-long section of the S1 expressway from Oświęcim to Dankowice.

The road is the longest of the three sections planned as part of the new S1 between Mysłowice and Bielsko-Biała. The consortium of Porr and Mota-Engil Central Europe have agreed to design and build the double-carriage expressway in asphalt with two lanes in each direction and with reserved space for a third lane, with a total length of 15km.

The new road will include rest and services areas and will be fitted with devices for road traffic safety, environmental protection, dewatering systems and road lighting.

The three new intersections will be built on the roads Oświęcim, Wola, Brzeszcze. As per the contract, roads running parallel to the expressway and road connections to adjacent areas will also be built.

Expected to take 33 months, without winter period into consideration, the road works will begin in the third quarter of next year and are scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2023.

Porr CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “The section of the S1 motorway between Mysłowice and Bielsko-Biała is part of a major trans-European transport network and is of great importance for the Silesian agglomeration area.
