A consortium of construction company PORR and Unibep has secured a contract worth about €90m from Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) for a section of the S19 expressway in Poland.

Under the contract, the consortium will be responsible for the design and construction of a section of the S19 expressway running from Krynice (DK65) through Dobrzyniewo to Białystok Zachód (S8).

The S19 expressway, which is currently under construction, will connect Hrodna, Białystok, Lublin, Rzeszów and Košice.

The scope of work also involves construction of a over 10km-long section of the dual carriageway.

The consortium will also be responsible for realising the Białystok West junction and the associated reconstruction of the S8 along a 1.9km road.

PORR stated that the road junction will link the S19 expressway with the existing S8.

Work also involves construction of about 13 engineering structures, two bridges over the Supraśl and Biała rivers as well as a railway bridge over the Białystok-Ełk track, along the route.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to commenced in the third quarter of 2022 with completion planned in 2024.

PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “Being awarded another contract as part of the S19 megaproject once again underlines our leading position in road and infrastructure construction.

“We are proud that the client relies on our expertise and that we are able to contribute our comprehensive know-how to this infrastructure project, which is so essential for Poland.”

In March this year, the company was awarded a €115m contract to design and build of the S19 expressway running from Kuźnica to Sokółka along with a section of the DK19 national road.
