Austria-based wellbeing organisation Therme Group has secured planning permission from the Trafford Council for the Therme Manchester, a £250m well-being resort in Trafford.

Planned to be completed in 2023, the Therme Manchester will be built on a 28-acre site located opposite intu Trafford Centre next to Barton Square. It is being developed in partnership with UK-based Peel L&P.

EventCity currently occupies part of the site. It is planned to be relocated and redeveloped as an events venue in TraffordCity.

The Therme Manchester will feature a two-acre wellbeing garden in the shape of England’s national flower Rose.

Additionally, the plans involve a large family zone comprising waterslides, a wave pool, indoor and outdoor pools, steam rooms and exotic palm tree relaxation areas.

The resort will also comprise a dedicated adults’ area featuring warm-water lagoons, swim-up bars, therapeutic mineral baths and designed steam rooms and saunas.

Additional features of Therme Manchester include a range of bars, cafés and restaurants.

Within five years, the project is estimated to attract up to two million visitors annually, making it the most visited European water-based attraction.
