Lambeth Council has given approval to plan for construction of a major new office and culture complex at ITV Studio’s former headquarters site in South Bank of London.

The plan, known as Project Vista, will feature a 26 storeys high building that will be linked to two buildings of 13 and six storeys.

The scheme will be located near the Grade-II listed National Theatre and in a conservation area.

The nearby residents had opposed the plans citing that light will be blocked by the skycrapers. However, councillors had approved the plan by a vote of 6-1.

Mitsubishi Estate London and CO-RE have drawn up plans for the landmark redevelopment of 72 Upper Ground.

Designed by Make Architects, the scheme will feature 900,000ft2 of offices, cafes and restaurants, cultural venues and green spaces.

Besides being targeted to be net-zero carbon, the scheme will aim for the highest BREEAM and WELL certifications.

Key to the new design are two new public squares, a spacious ground floor and walkways to a rooftop terrace that will overlook the Thames.

The ground floor will feature a 75,000ft2 arts and culture innovation hub and new cafes and restaurants by the riverside.

In November 2019, Mitsubishi Estate bought 72 Upper Ground from ITV. The site had an existing planning permission for redevelopment.

Final approval to the scheme will be given by London Mayor.
