Persimmon Homes has resubmitted plans for a new primary school in Llanilid in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales in UK.

The firm is working with the Rhondda-Cynon-Taf County Borough Council to build the school which is intended to serve the future Llanilid housing development.

Earlier, Persimmon sought outline planning permission for the proposed 1,850 homes under the first phase of development at the former Llanilid Opencast Site.

The development is expected to further deliver at least 3,000 homes.

In order to cater to the expanding community, the council’s cabinet members planned for a new school in 2019.

Furthermore, the council agreed to build the school as an extension of Dolau Primary School, through a secure pedestrian pathway.

To be built by Persimmon, the new building will be funded through its Community Infrastructure Levy responsibilities pertaining to the housing development.

With 540 primary education places capacity, the new school will include a 60-place nursery to help expand the language education provision in the Brynna and Llanharan areas.

It is planned to be delivered by September 2024.

The Council’s Planning and Development Committee will consider the Persimmon’s plan submission in due course.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council education and inclusion services cabinet member Joy Rosser said: “Cabinet has also recently agreed for the Council to further develop initial 21st Century Schools proposals using additional £85m Welsh Government funding – including projects in Llanharry, Cymer, Glyn-coch, Penrhys, Llantwit Fardre and Talbot Green, along with a new special school.

“This is in addition to the many other Band B projects which are currently being progressed – with two of those, at Ysgol Rhydywaun and YGG Aberdâr, now underway on site.

“Work to deliver the primary school to serve Llanilid has made important progress behind the scenes in recent months, and Persimmon’s planning submission is an important landmark. It follows an extension to the period of consultation with statutory consultees, including Natural Resources Wales and the Health and Safety Executive, which was agreed by Cabinet in July 2021.”
