US-based construction company Tutor Perini Corporation’s subsidiary Perini Management Services (PMSI) has won a contract to repair and restore the San Juan Custom House in Puerto Rico.

The fixed price task order contract, worth $44.1m, has been awarded by the US Customs and Border Protection.

The task order of the project falls under the Homeland Security National Multiple Award Construction Contract II (NMACC II).

The contract will be included by the company in the backlog of Q1 2021.

Built in 1924, San Juan Custom House is a Spanish Colonial Revival style building and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It is an architectural masterpiece with its interior and exterior terracotta work being noteworthy. Renovation and restoration of the two-story building will take two years.

Besides the repair and restoration of the interior and exterior facade, the contract includes interior structural concrete repairs, interior building renovation, repair of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, restoration of communications, fire protection system, and other improvements.

PMSI will adhere to the guidelines on preserving the historical aspect of the building while carrying out renovation and repair works.

In January 2021, PMSI was awarded two fixed-price federal contracts, carrying a total value of $66.9m.

The first $40.9m task order contract, under the Homeland Security National Multiple Award Construction Contract II (NMACC II), requires PMSI to design and construct a dormitory using modular construction methods. This is PMSI’s third task order at the Glynco campus.

The second $26m contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District involves renovations of the Cadet Field House, Phase 2. PMSI completed the Phase 1 renovations.
