Swedish construction company Peab has secured a contract worth €22m from Helsingin kaupungin asunnot (HEKA) to renovate rental apartments in Jakomäki, Helsinki, Finland.

Work on the project involves an extensive renovation of three high-rise buildings, which were constructed in 1968-69 years, and will updated according to modern standards.

As part of the project, a total of 210 apartments will be renovated.

The scope of work of under the contract will also include refurbishment of the common areas such as basements, saunas as well as the yards.

The construction company stated that the energy efficiency of the buildings will be improved in connection with the renovation.

Additionally, a solar panel system will also be installed.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence next month with completion anticipated in November 2024.

Peab region manager Marko Rinkinen said: “We have amassed a great deal of experience in renovating apartments for the city of Helsinki. It’s great that we’ve also been given this renovation project where we can take advantage of our broad expertise.

“This kind of project requires special planning, all round know-how and collaboration among craftsmen with different skills.”

Recently, the company secured a $13.2m (SEK125m) contract from Hargs Hamn to construct a new dock in Hargs Hamn, Östhammar Municipality, Sweden.

Under the contract, Peab was responsible for the construction of a 182m-long dock which will be built as an embankment dock.

The new dock will allow considerably larger ships to dock at the port.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to start in the beginning this year and is anticipated to be completed in 2023 summer.
