Swedish construction and civil engineering firm Peab has secured a $15m (€13m) contract to expand and refurbish Sirkkala School in Turku, Finland.

The contract, which was awarded by City of Turku, includes demolition of an old school and replaces it with a new and larger building.

Peab region manager Matti Joensuu said: “Since this project entails working with school buildings from different periods we can really take advantage of our expertise in renovating and building schools.

“We’re particularly proud to carry out this project in Åbo and thereby consolidate Peab’s position in the region.”

Additionally, the contract scope also includes renovation of three schools, including a school that was built in 2000. Overall, the project will comprise of five units.

The project is a turnkey contract, and the construction works are set to begin this month and is expected to be completed in June 2023.

Last month, Peab won a $16m (€14m) contract to expand and renovate an elementary school in Pohjois Haaga in Helsinki, Finland.

The contract awarded by City of Helsinki will see complete renovation and construction of two new buildings.

The elementary school in Pohjois Haaga comprises three parts.

In September this year, Peab secured a $13.69m (NOK119m) contract to construct Herkules Park in Skien, Norway.

The contract was awarded by Klosterfoss Utvikling, which is owned by Citycon.

Scope of work under the contract involves construction of 40 new apartments across two six-storey buildings.

The project will also include construction of a garage with 42 parking spaces.
