Swedish construction and civil engineering firm Peab has secured a contract worth $14.4m (NOK120m) from Pilares Eiendom to construct 38 apartments at Klemskvarteret in Kongsberg, Norway.

The 7,300m2 Klemskvarteret will comprise 38 apartments divided into two buildings with a large garden. It will also include underground parking spaces.

The scope of work involves demolition of five homes, restructuring of water and wastewater pipes, and arranging them in a new sidewalk from Klem Street to Drammen Road.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence in the second quarter this year with the apartments slated to be ready by the end of 2022.

Peab region manager Terje Kaasa Larsen said: “We’re really pleased to be working together with Pilares.

This is an important project in our efforts to increase our involvement and investments in Buskerud.”

Recently, the company was awarded a $25.4m (SEK211m) contract by the Swedish Transport Administration to reconstruct the section of road between Ribbingsberg and Eling on E20.

The 7km road section between Ribbingsberg and Eling in Essunga and Vara municipalities will be rebuilt into a 2+1 highway with a center guardrail.

The work on the project will help to improve traffic safety and passability. It will also include tunnels, a fauna passage, and bridges.

Construction work on the project is planned to commence in the spring this year with completion expected in the fall of 2023.

Peab product manager Thomas Larsson said: “Naturally we’re really pleased to contribute with this section of road as well to improving traffic safety and passability on E20.

“The biggest challenge when we build roads is always minimizing the effects on passing traffic while putting very high demands on safeguarding our personnel.”
