Nordic construction company Peab has secured a street upgrade project from the Trøndelag county authority to provide a traffic solution in downtown Trondheim, Norway.
The project contract is valued at Nkr347m ($33.5m).
Peab’s contract encompasses a complete renovation of a 700m stretch of street, which will be redeveloped into a three-lane road incorporating a dedicated mass transit corridor for trams and buses.
The overall plan includes the installation of new tram tracks, overhead contact lines, signal systems, pavements, bus stops, and the creation of green spaces.
Trøndelag county authority road director Jo Bernt Brønstad said: “This is really good news. The street has been in need of renovation for a long time and we’re now ready to deliver a new traffic solution with a high standard and good solutions for buses, trams, pedestrians and cyclists. This will be a significant boost for all of downtown Trondheim.”
The project’s environmental priorities include a focus on reducing carbon emissions through specific material selection and construction processes.

Construction is set to commence this month, with traffic resumption planned by June 2027. Full project completion is expected by late 2027.
Peab Norwegian civil engineering operations manager Anders Høvik said: “This project is an expression of our commitment as a local community builder. We have worked well together with the county council and look forward to continued cooperation in creating a modern traffic solution that will benefit residents.
