Peab has been selected by municipal company Sundsvall Logistikpark for a SEK734m ($76.3m) contract to build a new logistic park in Sundsvall, connecting to Tunadal Port in Sweden.

The new logistic park will be a transportation hub, which will be a combination terminal with establishment surfaces, roads and railroads connected to one area.

Unloading and loading goods here could save time and unnecessary transportation. The combi terminal is expected to offer businesses with efficient and environmentally friendly transportation to and from Sundsvall.

The present terminal has two 350m railroad tracks and the new terminal is expected to have three 650m tracks with the possibility to extend them.

Peab region manager Jörgen Eriksson said: “This project is divided into two stages. In the first stage which began in 2017, we planned the new combi terminal with Sundsvall Logistikpark and Ramboll.

“Naturally we are happy that we now have the go ahead to begin construction. I look forward to Peab contributing to providing Sundsvall with a sustainable transportation hub that connects trains, ships and trucks in our region.”

The new logistic park will also be the first to be built as per Ceequal, an international evidence-based sustainability assessment and rating scheme.

The system rating assesses how well sustainability in a project has been handled and is designed to encourage and rewards clients, planners and contractors to make efforts beyond legal requirements on sustainability.

Sundsvall Logistikpark CEO Sven Magnusson said: “It’s really exciting to start up Sundsvall’s largest infrastructure project. Now we are ready for the next stage in the project and with the new logistic park businesses will have access to efficient and environmentally friendly transportation.”

The project is a turnkey contract and the construction is expected to begin next month and could be completed in 2024.

A few days ago, Peab was selected by Swedish Transport Administration to rebuild 4km of the existing stretch of E20 between Tollered and Ingared outside of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Under the contract worth SEK206m ($21.4m), the road section will be turned into a highway with a speed limit of 100km per hour.

The project includes three interchanges along with a new combined overpass for both traffic and wild animals.
