Nordic construction company Peab has secured a Skr160m ($16.8m) contract to renovate eight apartment buildings in Örebro, Sweden.

The project has been commissioned by public housing company ÖrebroBostäder (ÖBO).

The apartments in each building range from one to four rooms with a kitchen, and are spread across three residential floors and include a basement.

The contract involves the overhaul of 192 apartments, enhancing both their exterior and interior aspects.

ÖBO construction project manager Sofi Gyllkvist said: “We’ve been giving the popular 1950s houses in the Norrby area a facelift, both inside and out, over several years. We want to provide a modern standard while retaining the period character both indoors and outdoors.”

Peab region manager Nils Staffansson said: “We’re very pleased to have been entrusted with carrying out this extensive renovation. By renovating both inside and outside, we ensure that these buildings will be attractive and sustainable homes for many years to come.”

The renovation will see a transformation of the exteriors, including new windows, facade panels, and entrances. There will also be partial replacements of external wiring and culverts.

The interior upgrades will feature new finishes, kitchen and bathroom furnishings, and technical installations. Common areas such as basements, stairwells, and technical rooms are also set for refurbishment.

This turnkey contract is scheduled to commence in autumn 2025 and be completed within roughly 18 months.

Peab will book the project order in the second quarter of 2025.

Last month, the company entered a contract with real estate company Nordr Sverige.

This project involves constructing a new housing development in Oceanhamnen, Helsingborg, Sweden, featuring a multi-storey building with floor heights from four to seven storeys.
