Dyke said: “Our partnership with Parsons ensures that the systems powering Riyadh’s future downtown are designed for efficiency, sustainability, and resilience.”

Under the 60-month contract, Parsons will deliver design and engineering services covering utilities, landscape, public buildings, and the public realm of the New Murabba development.

The first phase will focus on converting concept plans into detailed technical designs to enable construction.

The development spans approximately 14 million m² and includes a central feature called the Mukaab, described as a large cube-shaped structure.

Parsons will support New Murabba in creating an urban environment that integrates living, working, and leisure spaces.

The contract emphasises infrastructure that supports mobility and connectivity across the masterplan.

Smith said: “New Murabba is an extraordinary project that redefines sustainable urban development at a giga scale and Parsons is proud to be working with New Murabba team on the development of this new destination.

“Applying Parsons’ extensive local experience, dating back to 1958, in managing complex urban projects in the Kingdom, our team is committed to delivering this world-class, mixed-use development, to the highest safety and quality standards.”

The New Murabba development takes its name from Riyadh’s al-Murabba neighbourhood and aims to facilitate mixed-use spaces that promote accessibility, with most locations reachable within 15 minutes on foot.

The project’s design draws on Salmani architecture principles while intending to balance heritage with new technologies.

Parsons began working with the Public Investment Fund in 2017 and has contributed to several high-profile projects including Diriyah, NEOM Oxagon, NEOM THE LINE, Soudah Peaks, and Rua Al Madina.

The firm maintains an active presence in Saudi Arabia with over 50 ongoing projects focused on urban infrastructure and related sectors.
