Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), a subsidiary of NiSource, has begun construction of its first two Indiana-based solar projects – Indiana Crossroads Solar and Dunns Bridge Solar I.

These projects are expected to come online in 2022.

NIPSCO president Mike Hooper said: “Breaking ground on our first two solar projects is a critical next step in the evolution of our ‘Your Energy, Your Future’ electric generation transition plan.

“We’re proud to be investing in our state and local economies with these two Indiana projects designed to generate lower-cost, sustainable energy.”

Located in Jasper County, Dunns Bridge Solar I is a 265MW facility.

This project is being constructed by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, which is a generator of renewable energy.

Dunns Bridge Solar I will feature an estimated 900,000 solar panels.

It will be capable of generating sufficient energy to power 79,500 homes.

The second phase of the project, Dunns Bridge Solar II will also be built by NextEra Energy Resources.

This phase will have 435MW of solar paired with 75MW of battery storage.

Dunns Bridge Solar II will feature an estimated 1,500,000 solar panels and is expected to be operational in 2023.

NextEra Energy Resources will sell both the finished projects to NIPSCO.

The two phases are expected to generate around $59m in additional tax revenue over the life of the projects and about 300 jobs during construction.

Located in White County, Indiana Crossroads Solar is a 200MW solar farm. This project is being constructed by EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA).

This solar park will be a joint venture between NIPSCO and EDPR.

Indiana Crossroads Solar will provide over $1m annually to landowners and over $40m in local government payments over the life of the project. By the end of 2023, NIPSCO will have a total of 14 completed renewable projects.
