Dutch architecture firm UNStudio has unveiled designs for a new transfer terminal and air traffic control tower (ATCT) at the new Kutaisi Airport in Georgia.
The 4,000m2 airport terminal will feature a central arrivals hall, a check-in area comprising a lounge, cafe and car rental facilities, three departure gates and retail units.

Other features include a CIP lounge space, an exterior garden, an arrival zone consisting of customs and offices for border police, and an administration space with staff rooms and press conference facilities.
The control tower of the new airport will span 300m2 and be 55m high, and will be covered with a transparent material that changes colour whenever there is a fluctuation in traffic.
The design will feature local and sustainable elements, including an on-site underground source of natural water.
The floors of both the terminal and the ATCT will use this water to regulate temperature while the cantilevered roofs provide sun shading in the south and south-west zones.
