Shapell Properties and Liberty Building have started works on a new $150m upscale shopping, entertainment, and lifestyle centre in the city of Los Angeles, California, US.

The Vineyards at Porter Ranch will be built as a joint venture (JV) between the companies, which have been long-term partners in developing Porter Ranch.

To be spread over an area of 345,000ft², the Vineyards will house high-end restaurants and retail shops, a Whole Foods Market, along with a medical centre and hotel.

The main, open-air shopping centre is expected to be completed in late 2018, with plans to complete future phases, including the hotel and apartment community, by 2020.

The Vineyards will also have a centre green for community events and a 4,000ft community room.

"The Vineyards will be a sophisticated, pedestrian-oriented retail experience that not only will serve as a central gathering spot for Porter Ranch residents but also as the prime choice for higher-end shops and restaurants."

Shapell Properties vice-president John Love said: "The Vineyards will be a sophisticated, pedestrian-oriented retail experience that not only will serve as a central gathering spot for Porter Ranch residents but also as the prime choice for higher-end shops and restaurants serving this entire region.”

The 50,000ft² LEED-Gold-certified medical office building will be occupied by American health care provider Kaiser Permanente.

In addition to a 120-room hotel, the Vineyards at Porter Ranch features a 266-unit apartment complex and a movie theatre.

The solar panels on rooftops will generate electricity to power the complex, which will have a rainwater capture and irrigation recycling system, as well as electric car charging stations.
