San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, California, US, has unveiled the designs for its $555m expansion project.
The new facility, designed by architecture firm Snøhetta, will cover an area of 235,000ft2 and encompass ten floors.

The project includes the construction of free ground-level galleries, new entrances to make the museum accessible from every direction, a central public gathering place and more extensive routes of public circulation.
It also includes a new, multifunctional space that can be easily adapted for educational programmes, live performances and special events.
The project is expected to be completed by 2016.
