IL&FS Transportation Networks is set to break ground on a Rs1.4bn ($26.9m) outdoor stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, which will host the 35th Indian National Games.

The stadium will be built on 34 acres of land on Kerala University’s Kariavattom campus on a design, build, operate and transfer basis, with an operation period of 15 years.

The playing arena of the 50,000-seat stadium will be constructed in line with FIFA regulations and ICC norms.

The stadium will also have facilities to accommodate indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, table tennis and handball.

Construction will begin in December 2012, according to the Times of India.
