HITT Contracting’s corporate headquarters in Falls Church in Virginia, US, has received LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.
The four-storey, 160,000ft2 Class A building at 2900 Fairview Park Drive, designed by Noritake Associates and completed by HITT in September 2009, is located within the Fairview Park campus.

The building’s location encourages the use of alternative transit to reduce carbon footprint and its on-site amenities like a fitness centre, cafe, ATM and dry cleaning service also helps in cutting down travel employees make.
The facility incorporates a white roof membrane, which reflects light and heat away from the building, while high-efficiency HVAC equipment installed in the building helps save more than 20% in electrical costs.
US Green Building Council president, CEO & founding chair Rick Fedrizzi said buildings like HITT’s headquarters demonstrate how human systems can integrate with natural systems.
"2900 Fairview Park Drive efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come," Fedrizzi added.

By GlobalDataOther sustainable features of the facility include reclaimed and locally-sourced building materials and low-maintenance interior finishes.
Features like waterless urinals, low-consumption water closets and low-flow fixtures in showers and sinks help the facility use 46% less water.
Rhodeside & Harwell designed the landscaping, which features indigenous species, a rain garden and a storm water retention pond, which together eliminate the need for site irrigation.
HITT president Brett Hitt said: "The pursuit of LEED Gold certification has meant so much more than just saving long-term operating costs."
"It gave us a sense of common purpose, of doing something good for our environment, of galvanising our team into action and to further educate ourselves about a better way to deliver our services and build better quality buildings," Hitt said.
