Cardiff University, UK, has unveiled plans to invest around £300m to create a new campus on Maindy Road.
The university intends to transform a site on Maindy Road from a disused industrial space into a new campus with the addition of four buildings.
The proposals include what is being touted as the world’s first social science research park (SPARK), innovation centre, translational research facility and research institute for compound semiconductor technology.
Upon completion, the SPARK facility is expected to act as a new destination for national and international research leaders, and will be able to accommodate increasing numbers in postgraduate research.
The planned innovation centre will provide space for start-up firms and the multidisciplinary research facility will support in transforming academic research and innovation into practical, real-world applications.
The research institute for compound semiconductor technology will feature facilities that allow for better engagement with industry.

"Cardiff Innovation System will help us demonstrate the relevance of our work to the communities we serve, better connect industry, business, government and charities with our academics, and nurture student entrepreneurship and grass-roots business development."
