Swedish construction firm NCC has secured a won a contract worth about SEK265m ($28.5m) to deliver preparatory works for the Tvärbanan light rail line in Stockholm, Sweden.

The contract has been awarded by Stockholm Public Transport (SL) and the City of Sundbyberg.

The Kista rail line, located by the new Rissne station in the north of Stockholm, will run between Ulvsunda and Helenelund. It will feature 10 new stations across three municipalities: Stockholm, Sundbyberg and Sollentuna.

Under the design-build contract, NCC will be responsible for delivering preparatory works including technically complex elements.

The Swedish construction firm will also relocate several types of mains/pipelines, deliver railway substructure work and rock blasting/excavation, widen an existing bridge over the subway line and knock down existing bridges and a pedestrian and bike tunnel.

NCC said that the contract is a complex assignment since works will be carried out in a busy urban environment.

NCC Infrastructure regional manager Ingegerd Simonsson said: “This type of project is well suited to NCC.

“We have long-standing experience of complex civil engineering works and implementing projects in very busy urban environments. We are planning this project to ensure traffic safety for the public and that the work environment is safe for our employees.”

Construction on the project is in progress and is set to be completed in October 2022. The contract will be booked in the second quarter of 2020 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.

Recently, the Swedish construction firm won a design-build contract worth about SEK750m ($80m) from Fabege to build a new office building in Solna, Sweden.

Located adjacent to Arenastaden, the building covers an area of 35,000m². The project, dubbed Kvarter Poolen, includes the construction of new an office building that will serve as TietoEVRY’s new Swedish office spread over 10 floors.
