Swedish construction company NCC, in collaboration with Kristianstad Municipality, will carry out remodelling and extension of the municipality’s central wastewater treatment plant.
Groundwork at the project site started in spring last year.
A suborder has now been placed for the largest part of the project, which is the construction of the actual treatment plant.
This order carries a value of approximately $43m (SEK360m)
The city’s wastewater management system needed expansion to meet the growing needs of the municipality.
NCC and Kristianstad Municipality signed an agreement in 2017 for the extension project.

By GlobalDataThe two entities since then have been working together on the planning, budgeting and designing the project for the remodelling job.
Last May, NCC began preparing the ground for the construction phase of the project.
Following extensive piling work and in structural engineering, construction of the large wastewater treatment building can now commence.
NCC Infrastructure business area president Kenneth Nilsson said: “The project is being carried out in partnering form with Kristianstad Municipality and we have now reached an agreement on the scope of the next stage of the work and have signed a construction contract. Together we will build a cost-effective facility and we look forward to our continued collaboration.”
Following completion of the work, the plant is expected to transform into a new facility equipped with the latest technology, including a membrane bioreactor (MBR).
Kenneth further added: “Kristianstad’s new central treatment plant will be built next to the old one, which is a major advantage in engineering terms. When the plant is commissioned in 2024, it will be a state-of-the-art treatment plant, built to serve for many years ahead.”
The contract value will be recorded in Q1 2021 of the NCC Infrastructure business area.
