NCC, a construction firm in the Nordics, has partnered with Jönköpings kommuns Fastighetsutveckling for the construction of Science Park Towers in central Jönköping, Sweden.

The cooperation between NCC and Jönköpings kommuns Fastighetsutveckling began in 2019.

The contract is valued at around $51m (SEK440m).

This contract will be registered in Q1 2021 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.

JKPG Fast CEO Magnus Olsson stated: “We are now taking Jönköping Science Park to a new level. Science Park Towers will be the future meeting place for business, entrepreneurship and education, with the objective of creating more entrepreneurs, more high-growth companies and a strong regional innovation environment in Jönköping County. It is exciting that we have now initiated the construction work, in which our objective is a sustainable construction process with a focus on digitisation.”

Science Park Towers comprises a whole property block, which will be built beside the university and the present Science Park that lies in central Jönköping. The block’s lower base will be made of brick and it will consist of four towers of unequal height, rising seven to 15 floors.

Featuring a total of about 13,000 m2, the buildings will mostly house offices, along with conference and event venues, with a lounge and restaurant on the ground floor. Underground spaces are provided for service and operational installations.

Tracking of vehicles, machines and tools will be optimised through digital services to minimise to and fro movement from the worksite.

The buildings have been planned to be constructed keeping in mind a good indoor environment, low energy consumption, and healthy choice of materials, as per the stipulations of the Sweden Green Building Council Silver level.

NCC Building Sweden business area manager Henrik Landelius said: “We have worked closely together with JKPG Fast to create the best conditions for a cost-effective project and a sustainable construction process using digital solutions. It is inspiring to be able to contribute to the development of Jönköping and create an innovative meeting place for the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

Groundworks have begun and Science Park Towers is expected to be ready by the summer of 2023.
