Swedish construction company NCC has been commissioned by NREP to build 191 apartments in Espoo, Finland.

Under the $27.8m (SEK240m) design-build contract, NCC will be responsible for constructing apartment buildings ranging between four and nine stories.

The contract scope also includes construction of parking garage and a courtyard.

Construction works at the site are already underway and is slated for completion in summer 2023.

The new residential project developed by NCC will be part of NREP’s future Niittykumpu block complex at Espoo, in the capital area of Finland.

NREP partner Petri Valkama said: “The Niittykumpu project is part of NREP’s strategic goal of developing a better and more sustainable city, and at the same time, it’s one of NREP’s most significant development projects in Finland.

“It’s a pleasure to be cooperating in this project with a partner who shares our level of ambition for sustainability.”

NCC plans to build the apartments as per its ‘Sustainable Site’ concept.

NREP aims to achieve an A energy rating for its Niittykumpu block complex to promote the energy efficiency of the building.

It also plans to apply for a LEED Gold certificate for the properties under construction.

NCC Building Nordics business area manager Catarina Molén-Runnäs said: “NREP’s objectives for sustainable construction are well aligned with the measures we take during construction, such as using green electricity and minimising and recycling waste.

“We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with NREP and taking the next step in the development of this district.”

Currently, NCC is developing the first stage of the Niittykumpu block, which includes 220 apartments, parking facility and courtyard areas. It is expected to be completed by next summer.
