Nordic construction company NCC and Skaraborgsvatten, a municipal water association, are collaborating on the Borgunda waterworks expansion project in Sweden.
Serving the population of approximately 100,000 residents in Skövde, Skara, and Falköping, Skaraborgsvatten provides drinking water sourced from Lake Vättern.
Skaraborgsvatten president Carl Doverholm said: “We have a longstanding collaboration with NCC and there is also a framework agreement in place covering other water and sewage assignments in addition to this project.
“This collaboration enables us to leverage NCC’s know-how across the construction process, including specialist water and sewage expertise, which is crucial as we now look to further improve the quality of the water to our customers.”
NCC will expand the facility with the addition of an ultrafilter, which is expected to significantly improve the water treatment process and ensure a stronger microbiological barrier.
NCC Infrastructure business manager Tobias Häggholm said: “Because the project is being conducted in partnering form, we can benefit from each other’s different experiences to maintain exceptional quality and ensure safe operation throughout the project implementation phase.”

The project comes with an order value of approximately Skr150m ($16m).
NCC boasts experience in constructing and renovating water infrastructure. It claims to be the sole construction company with in-house specialised water treatment expertise, covering conceptualisation to commissioning.
The Borgunda waterworks expansion will be executed while the facility remains operational, with NCC leveraging its strategic planning, logistical management, and technical capabilities.
The NCC Infrastructure business area will register the order in the second quarter of 2025.
This development follows NCC’s recent undertaking to redevelop and extend the Metallum property in Espoo, Finland, for HGR Property Partners, a company specialising in real-estate development and investment.
