The new three-storey building, named ‘The Launchpad’ will be a hub of activity and is being delivered for Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.

Designed by architect BDP, the innovation hub forms part of the wider Airport Business Park development.

The Launchpad will provide offices, workshops, research facilities and break out spaces for start-ups and SMEs in the area to support collaboration and champions innovation.

Additional features of the 3,254m2 building include a café and seminar space.

Morgan Sindall said it would utilise off-site modular construction methods to produce the large hub efficiently, and cost effectively.

Morgan Sindall Construction Essex area director Chris Travers said: “The Launchpad is an incredibly exciting development that will create a new home for ambitious and innovative companies working at the vanguard of new technology and services.

“The development will diversify the employment opportunities available within the region and strengthen Southend’s standing as a home for innovative start-ups and SMEs.”

Morgan Sindall has commenced works on the development with plan to complete in 2022.

Southend Council deputy leader Ron Woodley said: “The development is also being built to deliver more thoughtful and intentional spaces that enhance human health and wellbeing, and the design and construction will also support the Council’s Green City Action Plan and environmental commitments by achieving the highest standards of environmental performance.”

Earlier this year, Morgan Sindall was selected to deliver a specialist SME innovation hub for Exeter Science Park in the UK.
