Morgan Sindall Construction has secured a contract worth £25m to deliver enabling works for the North Manchester General Hospital redevelopment project.

The scope of work under the contract involves demolition, clinical refurbishment works, asbestos removal, and construction of 1,000-space multi-storey car park and cycle hub.

It is located in Crumpsall 3.5 miles outside Manchester city centre, and is claimed to be one of the hospitals to receive funding through the Government’s Health Infrastructure Plan.

This plan is backed by an initial £3.7bn investment to develop 40 new hospitals across the country by 2030.

The project is led by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust with support of Manchester City Council and Manchester Health and Care Commissioning.

Additionally, Morgan Sindall Construction will ensure minimal disruption to the hospital estate while delivering the project.

Morgan Sindall Construction Manchester area director Shaun Jones said: “The appointment to begin the radical reshaping of a healthcare estate is, in itself, a significant responsibility.

“However, the opportunity to deliver social and economic change as a result of our work and to support the local recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic means this is a project that comes with a real sense of duty.”

In February this year, Morgan Sindall Construction was awarded a £5m contract to deliver a specialist SME innovation hub for Exeter Science Park in the UK.

The new innovation hub will support knowledge-led small and medium enterprises working in the science, technology, engineering, maths and medical (STEMM) sectors.
