MHPS to build three GTCC units at Anegasaki Thermal Power Station in Japan

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has secured a contract from JERA Power Anegasaki, a part of JERA, to build three new gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) generation units at the Anegasaki Thermal Power Station in Japan.

The contract forms part of an upgrade project for Anegasaki Thermal Power Station which is located in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture in Japan.

The upgrade project will replace the ageing gas-fired steam power generation units 1-4 at the existing power plant with three new GTCC units, which will have 650MW power generation capacity each.

The new GTCC units will feature the latest 1,650℃ class forced air-cooled M701JAC gas turbines.

MHPS said that the upgrade project will enhance the efficiency of the power plant while reducing the environmental load.

The three GTCC units are planned to commence operations from early 2023.

The project is being executed in a joint venture between MHPS and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, which is responsible for the supply of three generators and control systems as part of a full turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.

MHPS is planning to source the three gas turbines and related equipment from its Takasago Works located in Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture and the three steam turbines from Hitachi Works in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Furthermore, the firm will supply the heat recovery steam generators and exhaust gas denitrizer systems from its Kure Works in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

The JAC gas turbines, which will be used for the project, will feature a forced air-cooled combustor system.

The system will use advanced turbine blade cooling technologies that include an extra thick film thermal insulation coating, and high-pressure compressors.
