The A$76m ($49.1m) Mandalong Road upgrade project in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has achieved a significant milestone, moving into its detailed design phase.
This progression follows extensive community consultation and the release of the environmental review.
Transport for New South Wales has disclosed the review of environmental factors (REF), which outlines the proposed construction methods aimed at minimising environmental impacts.
The REF is seen as a critical document that ensures sustainable practices are integrated into the project’s development.
The community has shown support for the project, with 80% backing the preferred design.
This design includes the replacement of the current roundabout at Wyee Road and Freemans Drive with traffic lights, a shared path between Ourimbah Street and Gimberts Road, and the addition of two new bus stops at Dora Street.

By GlobalDataThe Australian Government is contributing A$56m to the initiative while the NSW Government is investing A$20m to enhance this vital connection from the M1 Pacific Motorway to Morisset and the southern area of Lake Macquarie LGA.
Upon completion, the project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion resulting from significant local development.
NSW Minister for Roads and Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison said: “We are building better communities for NSW [by] ensuring we have the roads infrastructure we need to improve people’s daily lives.
“We’re addressing the neglect of the previous government which left a backlog of important arterial road projects which need attention.
“I’d like to acknowledge the advocacy Dan Repacholi MP [Member of Parliament] and Greg Piper MP for their advocacy in ensuring this community has the infrastructure it needs and deserves.”
Last month, the NSW Government awarded Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure, a locally owned infrastructure contractor, the contract for the A$100m Pitt Town bypass.
