International consultancy and construction company Mace has signed a pre-construction agreement with University College London (UCL) for the Marshgate I building project at the university’s east campus on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, UK.
Architectural design firm Stanton Williams first designed the Marshgate I building in 2016.

Mace will start the pre-construction phase of the project with construction scheduled to begin next year, following the design and agreement of build costs. It will also conduct a review of the procurement strategy to secure project completion in 2022.
The phased opening of the Marshgate I building is set to take place from September 2022.
Mace public sector construction managing director Terry Spraggett said: “We are thrilled that Mace has been appointed to deliver the first phase of UCL’s new campus.
“This ambitious project will build on the fantastic legacy of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, creating a high-specification, collaborative and state-of-the-art research, innovation and teaching facility in Stratford.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced the £1.1bn vision for East Bank earlier this year in a move to offer skills and jobs for local people, as well as attract more than 10,000 students to the site.
For this initiative, Khan is offering £385m while the UK Government is providing £151m in funding. UCL has also secured £100m from the government towards the capital cost of UCL East building.
