Liebherr said the entire process of constructing the new building and relocating while continuing regular production took three years.
Construction of the facility commenced with the ground-breaking ceremony in December 2022.
The relocation included the transfer of 33 machines to the new facility. The company also invested in approximately 20 additional machines and equipment.
The expansion added about 46,000m² to the existing production and administrative space at the Oberopfingen site.

By GlobalDataThe company said all its business areas are now consolidated at Oberopfingen, which is intended to streamline operations and support supply chain activities.
This move also creates room for future growth at the hydraulic excavator plant, noted Liebherr.
Liebherr Group production and technology managing director Ulrich Hammerle said: “We are delighted that after almost seven years, in which we had to overcome the challenges of managing two production sites at a time, we do not only have our entire workforce under one roof, but also an opportunity to properly position ourselves for the future.”
The recent expansion marks a step toward supporting both regional employment and further development of Liebherr’s components segment.
The previous site in Kirchdorf an der Iller did not allow the company for further development due to limited space.
The new facility provides additional space, enabling improvements in production and processes. This allows the company to adjust operations to better meet customer requirements.
Upgrades in technical equipment and a focus on arranging production areas by value-adding steps are designed to make work processes more efficient and reduce processing times, stated Liebherr.
Features of the new facility include a highly automated sawing centre and a central system for supplying cooling lubricant to metal-cutting machines.
The facility also incorporates an integrated energy management system, and the site received certification according to DIN EN ISO50001 standards this year.
After completing the relocation, about 550 people now work at the hydraulics site in Oberopfingen.
