US-based construction services firm Kraus-Anderson (KA) has announced the completion of $70m expansion and renovation of the Nobel Hall of Science at the Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, US.

The Nobel Hall comprises the departments of biology, chemistry, geography and geology as well as interdisciplinary programmes in biochemistry, molecular biology and environmental studies.

Designed by architectural and engineering services firm Hastings+Chivetta, the 182,828ft² project includes a 90,935ft² renovation of Nobel Hall, a 79,561ft² south expansion and 12,332ft² north expansion.

Kraus-Anderson said in a statement: “Nobel Hall improvements create new synergies among faculty with adjacencies that are based on common research endeavours, teaching collaborations and shared instrumentation.”

The expansion project, which is aimed to nearly double the building’s footprint, includes additional research and teaching laboratories to accommodate industry standards for student and faculty safety, equipment and research methods.

Kraus-Anderson added: “The college’s innovative project is one of the first STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) buildings in the area through the connection of the Nobel Hall of Science with the Schafer Fine Arts building via an expansive lobby and laboratory theatre.”
