German construction firm, Philipp Holzmann AG, has pleaded guilty to bid rigging on two wastewater treatment projects in Egypt. The company has been sentenced to pay $30m, to be paid over five years. Holzmann allegedly agreed to pay a losers fee to co-conspirators if they raised their bid price or didn’t submit contract proposals. These fees are thought to have run into several million dollars.
