Aspire consortium, led by HOCHTIEF, has secured a contract worth approximately €200m ($231.7m) to deliver new and modernised student accommodation at the University of Southampton, UK.
The agreement includes responsibilities for designing, building, financing and operating the facilities over 50 years.

Aspire consortium members HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions, Cityheart and Vinci Building will construct 1,092 new units on the university’s Connaught and South Stoneham campuses by 2029.
The consortium will also renovate 399 existing rooms and restore Stoneham House, a listed building located on university grounds.
The contract forms part of the University of Southampton’s plan to expand student capacity to 30,000 by 2031.
The development aims to support this projected growth by increasing available accommodation.
In line with project requirements, all new buildings will operate without emissions and are set to surpass national net-zero carbon standards.
Additionally, the agreement stipulates that the proportion of affordable student housing in the university’s portfolio will rise by 10% upon completion.
HOCHTIEF CEO Juan Santamaría said: “We are building the infrastructure the university needs to support its planned growth, whilst at the same time strengthening our position in the UK market.
“By combining design, construction, financing and operation, we are creating student accommodation that provides long-term value to the university and its students.”
HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions and its partners have previously worked together on infrastructure initiatives across the UK, having delivered around 30,000 student beds nationwide to date.
Earlier this month, HOCHTIEF signed an agreement to design and extend a 26km section of the East Link railway close to Stockholm, Sweden.
The contract, awarded in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), is valued at up to €900m. The construction phase is scheduled for completion in 2034.
