The Ho Chi Minh City government plans to invite tenders by October for the construction of the Thu Thiem tunnel under the Saigon river and which forms part of the first phase of Ho Chi Minh City’s US$522M, 22km long east-west highway. Construction of the tunnel is due to start in April once the defence ministry has cleared mines and other ordinance left over from the Vietnam war. The link has been designed by Japan’s Pacific Consulting International which will also supervise construction.
