Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM), a Japanese construction equipment company, will rebrand globally as LANDCROS from April 2027, implementing the new name across all business operations.

The company attributes this decision to fundamental shifts within the construction and mining industries, including increased requirements for efficiency, digitalisation and sustainability, as well as skilled labour shortages and tighter project timelines.

The transition to LANDCROS follows the unveiling of the LANDCROS One prototype at Bauma 2025. The machine is developed for autonomous and remote-controlled operation, with controls designed for ease of use.

The company reported that customer feedback on the prototype has been strongly positive and affirmed the direction of its development. The machine also features systems from technology partners to enable new methods in operational management.

According to Hitachi Construction Machinery, the LANDCROS brand represents its commitment to providing updated solutions to construction and mining clients globally. Furthermore, the rebranding aims to speed up product development while continuing collaboration with customers and distribution partners around the world.

Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe president and CEO Francesco Quaranta said: “LANDCROS represents our commitment to go beyond machinery, empowering customers with intelligent, connected, and sustainable solutions.

The release is focused on the Australian mining sector, where Hitachi Construction Machinery has maintained a presence since launching its first large-scale excavators in 1979.

Headquartered in Tokyo and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Hitachi Construction Machinery employs approximately 26,000 people worldwide.

For fiscal year 2024, that ended 31 March 2025, it reported consolidated sales revenue of Y1,371.3bn ($8.8bn), with international sales accounting for 84%.
