Hines, a real estate development firm, has announced the development of DistributionPark, a logistics centre in Hamm, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.

The project includes flexible storage space along with high-quality office and social rooms to be developed on 71,000m² of space. The complex will be divided into two building structures and carefully integrated into the surroundings by earth walls, green spaces and trees.

Architectural firm Krüger Consult from Burgwedel was selected to design the ‘green facility’.

Hines claims that the new logistics centre will meet high standards of efficiency and connectivity and will be DGNB-certified, making it one of the sustainable logistics centres in the country.

The DistributionPark is located in an industrial area of Hamm-Uentrop and near the booming logistics industry in the eastern Ruhr district. The location is claimed to be connected to motorways and via an access point in Dortmund, to the European rail network for combined freight transport.

Hines managing director Christian Meister said: “In addition to the sustainability aspect, the flexibly divisible areas represent a major added value of the Hines DistributionPark. We can think of online retailers and industrial companies, but also contract logistics service providers as potential users.

“We are pleased about the great interest in the Hines logistics centre and are holding talks with potential tenants despite the current challenges caused by the Corona crisis.”

Last year, Hines signed a purchase agreement for the site, as part of a new investment strategy in the logistics sector. The company is focused on the development of selected locations with a develop-to-hold approach or to sell the properties in the market in the future.

The company believes that innovation such as roof terraces, a modernised office concept, sports facilities and sleeping quarters for employees and drivers make the working environment at the DistributionPark more attractive.
