Hill International has been appointed to deliver independent engineering services for the €170m ($194m) expansion of Larnaka International Airport (LCA) and Pafos International Airport (PFO) in Cyprus.
The Cyprus government and Hermes Airports have selected Hill International to oversee the second-phase developmental works at LCA and PFO.
Hermes Airports manages both airports under a build-operate-transfer concession agreement with the Republic of Cyprus and is now progressing with the Phase 2 expansion as stipulated in the agreement.
The Phase 2 development programme consists of projects designed to increase airport capacity and enhance the overall passenger experience.
This includes the expansion of current facilities and the construction of new infrastructure such as a walk-in-walk-out pier and a remote apron.
Upon completion, LCA’s passenger capacity will rise to 12.4 million per year while PFO will be able to accommodate up to five million passengers annually.

By GlobalDataHill International, leading a consortium that includes engineering and management consultant SALFO & Associates, will ensure that the construction works progress in line with Hermes Airports’ agreement with the government.
The consortium will provide a team of aviation experts known for providing engineering, management, and technical oversight services at international airports.
Supporting the team will be local engineering professionals and project control personnel, bringing essential knowledge of Cypriot development codes and regulations to the project.
Hill vice-president and aviation sector Europe lead Tamara Fleuti said: “Hill is known for delivering complex airport projects that transform passenger experiences, and we welcome the opportunity to leverage lessons learned and apply best practices in the delivery of our services at LCA and PFO.
“We look forward to working with Hermes Airports and the Republic of Cyprus on these exciting projects.”
Last month, Hermes Airports awarded a design-build contract to the Bouygues Bâtiment International-Iacovou Brothers consortium for the second phase of the extension programme for the aformentioned airports.
