Granite wins contract for road reconstruction project in Utah, US

US-based infrastructure company Granite has secured a contract worth $18m for the road reconstruction project in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Under the contract, the company will be responsible for full reconstruction of 300 West from 900 South to 2100 South.

The project design features a fully protected two-way bike lane and the incorporation of greenery-filled ‘parkstrips’ to aid in stormwater management and provide a buffer from traffic for pedestrians.

Scope of work under the contract also includes flat concrete work, asphalt paving, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) sewer lining as well as traffic signal systems.

Construction work on the project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2022.

The company expects the contract awarded to be included in its second quarter committed and awarded projects (CAP).

Granite vice-president Jason Klaumann said: “We are excited to work with Salt Lake City on the 300 West project to improve mobility and safety for vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic. Our local facilities will also be providing the materials for this multi-season project.”

Recently, the company secured a $151m contract from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for the construction of Segment 4B of the Highway 101 Carpinteria to Santa Barbara project in California, the US.

Granite will serve as the construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) for the project.

It is the third construction contract of the five-segment $410m CM/CG project that has been awarded to the company.

Scope of work under the Segment 4B includes demolition of existing roadway, grading, application of new hot-mix asphalt (HMA) and continuously reinforced concrete paving (CRCP).

It also includes construction of new retaining walls, sound walls, barrier rail, and bridge replacements.
