Granite has secured a contract worth about $26m from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the US to upgrade Taxiway Z and a portion of Taxiway S.

This initiative is part of SFO’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) aimed at enhancing the airport’s infrastructure.

Granite will undertake the rehabilitation of the taxiways to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of aircraft operations at one of the busiest airports in California.

Taxiway Z is a crucial corridor for aircraft movement, connecting terminals, airline maintenance, and cargo facilities.

The project scope includes upgrades such as the reconstruction of asphalt concrete pavement, the replacement of airfield lighting with LED lighting and signage, a 12kV electrical duct bank upgrade, and the installation of updated pavement markings and drainage improvements.

The project, which is set to begin in August 2025 and conclude in November 2025, will utilise materials from Granite’s nearby Santa Clara hot plant, which will provide 24,105 tons (t) of hot-mix asphalt.

Granite vice-president of regional operations Brent Fogg said: “We are excited to be part of this critical infrastructure project at SFO.

“Our collaboration with SFO on the Taxiway Z Rehabilitation Project underscores our commitment to delivering exceptional projects and advancing the safety and efficiency of airport operations.”

Granite serves as a full-service general contractor, construction management company, and construction materials producer in the US.

Last month, the company secured a contract worth around $80m from the Texas Department of Transportation for the improvement of a portion of Farm to Market Road 548 located near Forney, Texas, US.
