Construction firm Graham has been appointed by developer Glencairn Properties to design and build a new student accommodation in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The development will occupy a corner plot on Montrose Terrace and West Norton Place in the Abbeyhill area.

The scope of work under the contract involves construction of 149-bed student studios and cluster flats.

Slated to be completed in late summer 2023, the new energy-efficient building will feature cycle-storage, a community room, a gym, laundry facilities, multi-use common areas, and underground bin facilities.

For the project, 56three Architects has been appointed as the architect and Will Rudd Davidson as consultant engineer.

Graham stated that the new student accommodation will be designed to reflect the original streetscape set out in the 1800s.

The City of Edinburgh Council has approved the planning application for the new scheme in June 2020.

The project is expected to create 12 jobs during the construction phase along with 10 jobs for the maintenance and security of the project site.

Graham Building division regional managing director Gary Holmes said: “Glencairn Properties has a track record of delivering high-quality homes and we are very pleased to work with their team to deliver the Montrose Terrace scheme as they expand their purpose-built student accommodation portfolio.

“GRAHAM’s expertise across the student accommodation sector will bring a wealth of knowledge to the build.

“Edinburgh’s world-renowned universities and colleges drive a significant volume of investment within the city, and it is important that there is the correct level of accommodation to match student intake which Montrose Terrace will help to achieve.”
