GMI Construction has commenced work on York’s new acquired brain injury hospital at the Chocolate Works, for property developer HBD.

The company has been selected as contractor for the hospital development which is slated for completion by February 2023.

Set to be run by The Disabilities Trust, the new brain injury hospital marks the latest phase of HBD’s Chocolate Works development.

In October last year, the City of York Council’s planning committee granted approval for the hospital.

The new unit will secure 145 healthcare jobs and provide 36 beds across four wards and four assessment flats.

Additionally, the scheme will create three private and internal courtyards for service users, and a therapeutic garden.
