GAC Honda Automobile (GAC Honda), a Honda automobile production and sales joint venture in China, has commenced construction of its new EV plant in Guangdong Province.

The new EV production plant will be built on a lot with the size of 400,000m2 within the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development District in Guangzhou City.

The plant is expected to begin operation in 2024 with an annual production capacity of 120,000 units.

It will see an initial investment of $520m (CNY3.49bn).

The plant will embrace sustainable initiatives including the use of renewable energy sources.

GAC Honda expects to make it an efficient, smart and low-carbon EV plant.

Honda is planning to launch 10 e:N Series EV models in China by 2027.

In the years to come, GAC Honda’s new EV plant will support a wide EV lineup that the company plans to launch.

Honda expects to have a total base annual automobile production capacity of 1.73 million units in 2024 when the new facilities of GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda become operational.
