Fluor and its joint venture (JV) partner Balfour Beatty have broken ground on Oak Hill Parkway Infrastructure Project in Austin, Texas, the US.

The Texas Department of Transportation awarded the infrastructure project to Fluor in April last year.

The scope of work under the contract involves widening and reconstruction of U.S. 290 from the east end of Circle Drive to Loop 1 and State Highway 71 through Oak Hill to Silvermine Drive in Travis County, west of downtown Austin.

Work also involves widening from two to three main lanes to facilitate traffic in each direction and addition of two to three frontage road lanes in each direction.

It also includes construction of an overpass for the U.S. 290 main lanes over William Cannon Drive as well as direct-connect flyovers built between U.S. 290 and State Highway 71.

The project will also see constriction of new bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along the entire corridor along with 1.6km to 2.4km of sidewalks, 22.5km of shared-use path, new landscaping, corridor aesthetics and tree plantings.

Fluor stated that the Oak Hill Parkway Infrastructure project will serve as an important route to Austin for the residents of Bee Cave, Lakeway, Oak Hill, Dripping Springs as well as other communities west of Austin.

Construction work on the project is planned to be completed in late 2025.

Fluor Urban Solutions business group president Terry Towle said: “This is a great example of our continued strategic focus on infrastructure projects in Texas.

“When completed, widening the corridor will improve mobility, operating efficiency and safety by easing gridlock in the area, enabling emergency vehicles to respond to accidents quickly.”
