Essex, a full-service provider of adult living communities, has broken ground on its new $45m community, named The Parkwood, in South Dakota, US.

Located at 85th Street and Western Avenue, the new active 55+ living community will feature 133 apartments.

The development will include one- and two-bedroom rental apartments along with walk-in closets, covered balconies or terraces, open floor plans, in-unit washers and dryers and a den.

Other amenities include coffee shop, theatre, climate-controlled under-building parking, light housekeeping, guest suite, salon, library, a dog wash station, meal options and continental breakfasts, transportation, and a car wash bay.

The Parkwood will also include outdoor living spaces, modern finishes, and community rooms.

The new development is expected to open in spring 2023.

Recently, Toll Brothers’ rental division Toll Brothers Apartment Living (TBAL) has formed a joint venture (JV) with Sundance Bay to develop a new mixed-use rental apartment community in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The new 18-storey building, named Broad & Noble, will feature 344 rental apartment units, 106 underground parking spaces, 16,176ft2 of amenity space, and 10,440ft2 of street-level retail area.

Amenities at the new development include fitness centre, music and podcast rooms, private dining rooms, yoga and cycling studio, and a sky lounge with outdoor deck area.
