Entergy Arkansas said this project will aim to address increasing electricity demand across the state and maintain customer rates below the national average.

Construction activities are projected to generate an estimated $2.9bn in total economic impact and support more than 3,600 jobs throughout the project’s development.

The build-out is also expected to contribute $128m in local, county, and sales taxes, with funds allocated to schools, transportation infrastructure, and other public services.

Once completed, the site will employ roughly 22 full-time staff members.

The planned Jefferson Power Station is being designed with combined cycle combustion turbine technology capable of powering over 355,000 homes.

The plant will operate consistently, providing dependable generation capacity when renewable sources are unavailable and supporting stable electricity supply during periods of high usage or extreme weather.

Company officials state that this facility will feature technology approximately 40% more efficient than older generation units, which should lower fuel and operating costs for customers.

Entergy Arkansas president and CEO Laura Landreaux said: “Jefferson Power Station represents a cornerstone investment in Arkansas’s energy future. This facility will strengthen reliability, keep costs low for our customers, and provide the dependable energy supply our communities need to thrive. We’re building for the next generation of Arkansans.

“This investment demonstrates Entergy’s proactive preparation for Arkansas’ economic future. While continuing to deliver reliable service to existing customers, this investment will also give new businesses and industries confidence that Arkansas has the reliable, affordable power they need to grow.”

Entergy Arkansas intends to engage local suppliers during construction and has encouraged prospective vendors in the state to register for consideration.

The company highlighted additional plans at the White Bluff location, including a potential conversion of existing coal units to natural gas for peaking power needs and integration with projects such as Arkansas Cypress solar and battery storage.

These measures aim to diversify energy resources available to customers and provide stability against natural gas price volatility.

Local authorities have expressed support for Jefferson Power Station, noting its role in sustaining competitiveness and meeting the electricity needs of existing residents and industries.
