Engie, a regeneration specialist, is set to commence work on a £34m energy-efficient housing development in Rastrick, West Yorkshire after signing a contract with Yorkshire Housing.

Engie and Yorkshire Housing had together worked to identify the 26-acre site off Delf Hill and Dewsbury Road. The site initially came to the market in 2018 via land agent Savills.

The planning approval for the project was granted by the Calderdale Council in January 2020. Both parties have finalised on the pre-planning and technical agreements for the project.

The project, designed by MHA Architects, will include the construction of 267 homes, which will feature high-efficiency boilers, enhanced levels of insulation, and time and temperature heating zone controls.

The houses will have the provisions of charging points for electric vehicles; several plots will also have the benefits of photovoltaic solar panels. The new homes will reduce carbon emission by a minimum of 10%.

Construction on the project will last for about four and a half years.

“Our strong 12-year partnership with Yorkshire Housing has seen us innovate and evolve our service offering, ensuring these new homes will be built with our ambitions for a zero-carbon future in mind. We look forward to beginning work on-site and help turn what is an exciting vision into reality.”
