The Government of Victoria, a state in Australia, has unveiled early designs of the new Regional Logistics Distribution Centre (RLDC).

The new off-site supply and logistics centre, which forms part of the $384m Warrnambool Base Hospital redevelopment project, will support more than 50 health providers.

The redevelopment project will include a new multi-level tower to provide a bigger emergency department, an extra 22 inpatient beds, more operating theatres, and dedicated areas for pathology services and dialysis. It will also comprise a dedicated paediatric unit

Featuring a modern healthcare supplies warehouse, the new RLDC will also have a commercial laundry and linen service to free up space at the hospital for construction of the multi-level hospital tower.

Architects Silver Thomas Hanley led the early design of the RLDC on Cooper Street. Lehr Consultants International served as engineering consultants.

Construction work of the RLDC is planned to start in late 2022.

Early works on the main redevelopment is scheduled to start in early 2023, while major works will commence in mid-2024. It is slated for completion in late 2026.

The redevelopment project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority.

Victorian Minister for Health Martin Foley said: “The redevelopment of Warrnambool Base Hospital is the biggest rural health infrastructure upgrade in Victoria and it is great to see this important part of the project progressing so well.

“This new state-of-the-art centre will provide valuable medical supply services and provide vital support to health services in Victoria’s south west.”

Western VictoriaState member Gayle Tierney said: “This project will be an enormous boost for the community – providing job opportunities during construction and improving health outcomes long-term.”
